PortsmouthMatch report
Bristol City beat Portsmouth 2-1 at home on Saturday 29 August at 15:00 BST in the Championship. Lorent Tolaj put the hosts ahead on 31 minutes, and Jason Knight doubled the lead just after the interval, on 56. Portsmouth got a goal back only in the fifth minute of stoppage time, Marezi converting from the penalty spot with the clock all but gone.
There was no comeback in this one. City led from the 31st minute onwards and never gave the lead back, and Knight's goal early in the second half turned the afternoon into a chase Portsmouth could not finish. The late penalty tightened the scoreline without threatening it: by the time the ball hit the net, there was no match left to rescue.
For anyone reading this back later, the record is straightforward: two Bristol City goals either side of half time, one Portsmouth penalty deep into added time, and a one-goal margin that flatters the visitors more than it describes the game. The scoreline says close; the timing of the goals says otherwise.
