Middlesbrough beat West Brom 3-1 at home in the Championship on Saturday 29 August at 12:30. The first half ended goalless. Will Lankshear put the hosts in front on 48 minutes, Jimmy-Jay Morgan levelled for the Baggies on 65, and Lankshear restored the lead on 73 with his second of the game. Alfie Jones added a third on 87 to settle it.

West Brom were level for only a short spell before Lankshear's second put Middlesbrough back in front, and the visitors never led at any stage. Three of the four goals belonged to the hosts, two of them to the same man, and Jones's late strike turned a narrow lead into a comfortable one.
