Match report

Stade Rennais and Paris Saint-Germain drew 2-2 on Sunday 23 August at Roazhon Park in Rennes, on the opening matchday of the 2026/27 Ligue 1 season. Sebastian Szymanski put the hosts ahead on 9 minutes and Esteban Lepaul doubled the lead on 38, sending Rennes in at the interval two goals up. Ferran Torres pulled one back on 71 and levelled on 82, both goals created by Fabián Ruiz.

Torres scored twice on his Paris Saint-Germain debut, and both came after Luis Enrique rebuilt his attack at half time, withdrawing Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Fabián Ruiz supplied each assist. There were no red cards, none of the four goals came from a penalty, and none arrived in stoppage time, so the scoreline was settled inside the ninety minutes rather than beyond them.

The match was staged in Rennes because the LFP competitions commission inverted the fixture on 19 August, citing the state of the pitch at the Parc des Princes, and Paris Saint-Germain's own website treated the game as an away trip. The draw leaves both clubs on a point from their opening fixture, and Rennes will rue it more, having led twice in front of a crowd of roughly 29,000.
