Match report

Wolves beat Stoke 4-1 at Molineux in the Championship, and the scoreline was settled long before the end. Sam Gallagher put the visitors in front inside two minutes, but Rodrigo Gomes turned the match on his own with goals on 19 and 22. Raúl Jiménez made it three from the penalty spot on 55, and Jordan James added the fourth on 84.

This was not a narrow win rescued late. Stoke's early lead lasted only until Gomes found his range, and once Wolves were ahead they never handed the advantage back. The second half started with the game still in the balance, though: the penalty was what opened the gap, James's late finish stretched it further, and a three-goal margin is an honest reading of it.

For the record: Saturday 29 August at 12:30, a Championship fixture at Molineux that produced five goals, four of them for the home side and shared between three different Wolves scorers. Gallagher's opener, the earliest goal of the match, ended up as the only thing Stoke had to show for the afternoon.
