Match report
Coritiba beat Corinthians 2-1 on Sunday 23 August at 23:30 BST in the Brasileirão Série A. Pedro Rocha put the hosts ahead on 40 minutes, before the interval, and Paulo Roberto doubled the lead on 75. Raniele pulled one back for the visitors on 90+3, deep into stoppage time, with barely enough left for Corinthians to restart the game.
The match was settled in the stretch between the two home goals. Coritiba led from the moment Pedro Rocha scored and, rather than sit on a single goal, went and got a second. The one goal margin on the scoreboard flatters the away side: Corinthians never led, never drew level, and only troubled the scoreline once normal time had run out.
For the record, months from now: a home win in the Brasileirão Série A, two goals for Coritiba either side of the break, and a Corinthians reply that arrived in added time and changed nothing but the final score. Read cold, 2-1 looks close. Read minute by minute, the visitors were chasing the game from the 40th minute onwards.
