Kane scores 100th Bundesliga goal in record time as Bayern thrash Union Berlin 7-0

Bayern Munich thrashed Union Berlin 7-0 at the Allianz Arena on Friday, in the Bundesliga's fourth round, and the result will be remembered for one number in particular: Harry Kane scored his 100th Bundesliga goal in his 98th appearance for Bayern, the fewest games any player has needed to reach the mark in the league's history.

The rout in Munich

In front of a sold-out crowd, Bayern gave bottom-of-the-table Union Berlin no way back. Jamal Musiala opened the scoring in the 18th minute, finishing first time after a driving run from Alphonso Davies on the left. Vincent Kompany's side dominated possession and led 3-0 at half-time.

Kane's penalty in the 39th minute, won by Michael Olise inside the box, was his 100th Bundesliga goal. He sent goalkeeper Frederik Rønnow the wrong way, without much celebration. Eleven minutes later, in the 54th minute, he headed in a cross from Olise to make it 101 goals in the German top flight.

A record nobody had

Bundesliga's official site confirmed Kane had become the fastest player in league history to reach a century of goals. The previous record belonged to Dieter Müller, the Cologne striker of the 1970s, who needed 129 appearances to reach 100, 31 games more than Kane.

The number captures what Kane has done since joining Bayern in 2023: on average, he scores in the Bundesliga once every 78.3 minutes, a better rate than Erling Haaland (87 minutes), Robert Lewandowski (100) and even Gerd Müller (105), the club's own historic marksman.

Kane is also the only player to win the Torjägerkanone, the Bundesliga's top scorer award, in each of his first three seasons in the competition, a feat no other forward had managed. At 33, he could end the 2026/27 season with 200 goals for Bayern across all competitions.

Olise, the man of the night

If Kane's goal stamped the individual record, the rest of the night belonged to Michael Olise. The Frenchman scored the goals that rounded off the scoreline, in the 43rd, 73rd and 76th minutes, the last a strike from outside the box that Bundesliga's own site clocked at 100.52 km/h into the top corner. It was Olise's first hat-trick of the season, and he also set up Kane's fourth goal.

The German table after the round

Because the match opened round four on Friday, Bayern had the jump on their rivals before the rest of the fixtures were played over the weekend. With the win, Bayern moved to 10 points from four games and opened the best goal difference in the league, +12, ahead of Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund, the two sides on 9 points from three games each.

On the other side of the result, Union Berlin's trouble shows up clearly in the numbers. After four rounds, the Berlin club have 1 point, 4 goals scored and 17 conceded, the worst goal difference in the division. They arrived in Munich already off the back of a defeat to Schalke the previous week, and their coach made three changes to the starting eleven in an attempt to respond.

What comes next

The win adds another chapter to Kane's season ahead of the Ballon d'Or. According to Bundesliga, the Englishman could add the France Football award to a run of three straight Torjägerkanone titles, something no other top scorer had achieved in his first three Bundesliga seasons. The 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony is set for 26 October in London. In the same match, full back Alphonso Davies made his 171st Bundesliga appearance, becoming the competition's most-capped Canadian player, overtaking Paul Stalteri.

For Bayern, the round is not over: Freiburg, Dortmund and their closest rivals still play over the weekend, and Kompany's side will be watching from home, hoping to hold on to the lead they opened up on Friday.
