Arsenal thrash City 3-0 to win Community Shield

Arsenal began the 2026/27 season with a trophy and an impactful performance. This Sunday (16), the Gunners beat Manchester City 3-0 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff to win the Community Shield.

Arsenal needed just 24 seconds to open the scoring. Riccardo Calafiori received the ball from Myles Lewis-Skelly on the edge of the box and finished to put the Gunners ahead early, setting the tone for the match.

Manchester City struggled to respond. Despite keeping possession, Enzo Maresca's side found it difficult to create clear chances against a well-organised Arsenal defence.

The Gunners extended their lead before half-time. Martin Odegaard crossed into the box, Christos Tzolis flicked the ball back and Kai Havertz turned it in for the second goal.

Tzolis was one of the standout players for Mikel Arteta's side. The new signing finished the match with two assists and played a decisive role in the win.

The second half followed the same script. City tried to find a way back into the game, but Arsenal continued to control proceedings and got the third goal through Martin Odegaard.

Arsenal's captain received the ball in a dangerous position and calmly finished to make it 3-0. With the result all but settled, Gunners fans began singing "olé" in the closing minutes.

The match also marked Enzo Maresca's first official game as Manchester City manager following Pep Guardiola's departure. The Italian will now have to fix the issues shown before the start of the Premier League.

Erling Haaland had little influence on the game and was neutralised by Arsenal's defence, while City's attack struggled to create plays capable of threatening their opponents.

For Arsenal, the win represents an important signal at the start of the season. As well as winning a trophy, the team put in a convincing performance against one of their main rivals.

With the Community Shield secured, Mikel Arteta's side begin the season with renewed confidence, while Manchester City will have to react quickly before the start of their Premier League campaign.
