Match report

Manchester City beat Bournemouth 2-1 at home in the Premier League on Sunday 23 August at 14:00 BST. Marcus Tavernier put the visitors in front on 26 minutes, midway through the first half. City's reply took an age to arrive: Marc Guéhi levelled on 84 minutes, and Joško Gvardiol turned the game around at 90+1.

The scoreline hides how long City spent chasing. Bournemouth were in front from the 26th minute to the 84th, and the hosts did not lead at any stage until normal time had run out. Both home goals came right at the end, which is what a narrow 2-1 fails to convey: this one was rescued, not managed.

One for the archive: a Premier League afternoon at home in which City trailed Tavernier's first-half opener for the bulk of the match, then found Guéhi on 84 minutes and Gvardiol at 90+1. Anyone reading the 2-1 later will not see that the winning goal was also the only moment City had led all day.
